What makes us different?

AYYAANA is Oromo, which is a language spoken by approximately 35 million people in African Sub Saharan region. The term is untranslatable but is close to the word "Spirit", "Inspired" or "that what makes things live". We believe that design is all about that, it is our spirit materialised in physical objects. That is why AYYAANA was founded. To bring that embodied inspiration which can be found in objects of African contemporary design, to Europe. Why? Because we believe that it is precisely there where cultures converge that new forms for the future are found.

AYYAANA is a design distributor and retailer with inspiration at the core of its philosophy. We are curious to the past, passionate about being in the present and bold enough to visualise the future. We select quality brands and our collection represents an unique voice away from the ordinary.

AYYAANA is your wholesale partner for contemporary african design & lifestyle and do represent over 100 African designers brands for the European Market.
We value integrity, authenticity and fairness. We are importer and distributor for the European market for multiple designer brands based in or with a strong link to the African Continent.

We support retailers, manufacturers, architects, project developers and trading companies with our network in: architecture, design, interior design & lifestyle.

From our location in Hamburg we market designers and brands in the areas Home & Living, Kids, Jewellery, Cosmetics, Books, Lifestyle & Fashion, Food, Stationary & Cards.

Giving back

Ideas that lead to designs do not take place in isolation but arise from the connection with each other or with the community. That is why we find it important to support projects in Africa that are concerned with education, culture exchange or sharing of knowledge necessary for good design.

The AYYAANA group annually invests 5-10% of the realized profits in local projects. We are currently working on the expansion of the library for Infolink University College in Awasa (Ethiopia).
